PLEASE NOTE: To the best of our knowledge, these shelters maintain a no-kill philosophy. If you must surrender your cat, please contact the appropriate shelter(s) to find out if they will accept your cat, and under what conditions. Know that the two shelters in Deschutes County are NOT no-kill, and once you have signed over your pet, whether he or she lives or dies, even the same day, is out of your control.
You should first find out if a friend, relative or co-worker might be willing to care for your cat. That transition is much easier on an animal than going to a strange place, where there are other animals and people your cat won't know.
Please remember that adopting a pet should be a life-long commitment, and you should value that promise to your pet. You may have many things going on that make up your life, but to your pet, you and your family are your pet's whole life. Please do the right thing, even if it means transporting your pet to a safe shelter outside this area.
